Important Information for Post-Hurricane Recovery

All of us at Becker & Poliakoff hope that you and your loved ones are safe. With Hurricane Irma relief efforts now underway, our thoughts remain with those impacted by the storm.

As your community works to recover from Hurricane Irma, we are including here important information to help you address some of the immediate needs your association may have. For your convenience we have divided this information into three distinct sections so you can quickly access what suits your specific needs:

  1. Repairs & Reconstruction

Separate the urgent from the important. You should undertake the urgent steps needed to secure your home from further water intrusion, to clear debris and to dry out units. Government assistance may be available for debris removal and potentially other hurricane recovery efforts.

  1. Government Assistance

Consider having your Association and your residents register for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  A Major Disaster Declaration was issued by the federal government on September 10, 2017, for Broward, Charlotte, Clay, Collier, Duval, Flagler, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Putnam, Sarasota, and St. Johns Counties, providing for emergency work, debris removal, emergency protective measures and hazard mitigation.

  1. Emergency Powers

On September 3rd, Governor Scott issued Executive Order 17-235 declaring a state of emergency in all 67 counties within the State of Florida in response to Hurricane Irma. That Executive Order will remain in place until such time as Governor Scott no longer feels that the local governments need the resources and flexibility required to deal with Irma cleanup efforts.
