The Department of Justice and the Department of Housing and Urban Development are jointly responsible for enforcing the Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination in housing on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status and disability. One type of disability discrimination prohibited is the refusal to make reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices, or services when such accommodations may be necessary to afford a person with a disability the equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling.

Some of the topics we will cover include:

  • What is a reasonable accommodation
  • Who pays for a reasonable modification
  • Residency requirements for those with disabilities
  • Disabilities defined under the Fair Housing Act
  • When can requests be denied

Lunch will be provided.
This class is complimentary, but seating is limited.
